The Human Intersection Project

Ubuntu — A Person is a Person Through Other Persons

Back in 2010, I was relying heavily on Facebook to connect with my family, friends and social network. Eventually, I grew bored with Facebook even though it served a great purpose in connecting people who want to stay in touch in one form or fashion, and in varying degrees. But FB’s use of my data for nefarious (and self-enriching) motives forced me off completed in 2016. So I put my thoughts elsewhere…and here I am.

I’m of the strong belief that people are the greatest treasures to enter our lives, and that our very makeup is a by-product of those who have connected with us in some form or other. I’m wanting to write, not about myself, but about the incredible people I’ve met in my lifetime who contributed something — a lesson, a quote, a friendship, a smile, a relationship — and thus added something (large or small) to person I am now

I’ve been blessed to have met, and interacted with, some rather ordinary as well as extraordinary types. I’ll not mention full names, but rather will use initials, code names, nicknames, first names, etc. I write these posts to honor them, and try to remember the positive about them. If part of my experience with them was “not so positive”, yet contributed to my makeup in a positive way, I may write about that as well (but I’ll try to focus on the “silver lining”). If I remember a specific quote or saying from an individual, I’ll try to insert that as well

I’m calling my effort the “Human Intersection Project”. Why the “intersection”? Because with everyone I’ve met or come in contact with, it’s like being at an intersection. I act, react, or interact (or choose not to). Once I’ve arrived at the “intersection” I can 1) continue on down the road, 2) retreat to whence we came, or 3) take a turn (with or without those I encountered along the way).

This project is a celebration of the lives that have been, are, and continue to be. Some stories are too rich for me to keep to myself. Maybe it will lead to others thinking about “paying it forward”. Maybe it won’t lead to anything more than a collection of e-babble. But I’m gonna give it a shot anyway.

If I write a note/post about you, or someone you know, please be assured that it’s about honoring your/their contribution during the course of the intersection with me. I’d love it if others added their own posts, comments, or stories about incredible people they’ve met, but there’s no pressure to comment or contribute. Regardless, I won’t take liberties with your posts — that information belongs to you even if you are willing to share it with others

Will this stuff ever end up in a compilation? Who knows? And truthfully, I doubt it. It’s enough for me to start this, even if I eventually get bored with it myself and drop it down the road.

I may blog/ruminate about other items on this space, but all stories relating to the Human Intersection Project will be preface with the “HIP” title, followed by the name of an individual. Hope you like my stories.
